Information Report.

We have been learning about a new text type... Information Reports! As we are investigating our solar system, students in 5SG did some research on our Earths Moon. Each student used their iPad to research and practised their note taking skills.

We then came back together and used all of our notes to write an information report on our Earths Moon.

Here it is:

Have you seen that bright thing that shines in the sky at night? That is the Moon! The Moon is the Earth's only natural satellite. The Moon is little pieces of rock that billions of years ago formed together. It is the largest satellite in our solar system.
History:
The moon is 4.5 billion years old. The Earth only has 1 Moon; however other planets can have many moons. The moon is over 300,000km away from Earth. It moves an extra inch away every year. Neil Armstrong was the first human to step foot on the Moon on July 20, 1969.

Appearance:
The Moon is a big grey ball of rock. It is covered in dust and craters. Only 59% of the Moon is ever visible to Earth. That means we NEVER see half of the Moon. The Moon does not give off its own light; it reflects the light off of the sun. The Moon has a diameter of 3476 kilometres, which is 1/4 the size of Earth.

Movement:
The Moon orbits the Earth every 27.3 days. However, the Moon does not orbit around the Earth in a perfect circle. It orbits Earth at an average speed of 3683km per hour. The Moon has no atmosphere. It rises in the east and sets in the west. From Earth it takes 3 days for a rocket to reach the Moon. If it were possible to travel by car, it would take 130 days. If you were to travel by light to the Moon it would take 1.52 seconds.

The Moon is responsible for creating waves in our ocean. Some people use to say that the Moon was made out of cheese, because of all its craters. Every night it shines bright in the dark sky.
